The bigger picture for ongoing support for Tasmanian wildlife, August 2023:

We appreciate that the closure of Thylacine lutruwita is the end of an era and we acknowledge all of the contribution and support from the Thylacine team as well as the broader network of rehabilitators, carers and volunteers over the last three years.

The funding which has been in place for Thylacine lutruwita will continue, albeit in a new arrangement. The Elsie Cameron and Elsie Flood Foundations have undertaken a strategic review in relation to their funding of wildlife initiatives in Tasmania. As a result, funding is being redirected to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary to support extended access to wildlife primary care (more hours and days) and build specialist capability - all under one roof. The Feline Fix service is on pause as at August 2023, but will re-open in due course. This reflects an ongoing commitment to ensuring that affordable cat de-sexing is available in southern Tasmania. Please keep an eye on Bonorong’s website for more information in weeks and months to come.

We’re very pleased that there will be continuing funding for wildlife in Tasmania and thank everyone for their contribution to Thylacine lutruwita. We are proud of the part that Thylacine has played in the wildlife cause to date.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which we work and live, and respect their ongoing custodianship of the land.

We pay respect to Tasmanian Aboriginal people, and Elders past and present and those emerging.
